When this website first launched as KissingCousins.net, a few people were complaining about the name. To some, the term had connotations that simply wasn't apt. Many of the participants wern't in a current relationship with their cousin. The website soon relaunched as CousinCouples.com.
Consequently, the term has been used all over the world to describe consanguineous relationships among cousins.
The founder of this website even found a reference to Cousin Couples in his college textbook. Initially he thought he was hallucinating, however quickly realized the New York Times Magazine
article by Ann Patchett had been reprinted in his textbook.
