there have been two producers from the same show recently violate the terms of service for media people here lately. one posted a request on this site without contacting the admins first, the second sent me a pm but wouldn't wait for an answer before sending private messages to at least one member here.

these people are not to be trusted. it is in your best interest not to deal with them at all. i have told them not to contact anyone here again. if they send you a message, please report and forward it to the admins here immediately.

I have an @gmail.com account  :embarrassed: Guess I'll just have to prove myself real!

LOL no, not you... we're not worried about MEMBERS using gmail accounts... this was about members of the media. there were a few media people using gmail accounts that were kinda spamming and stalking around here, and we didn't want any of our members to be exploited by them. there are way too many shady people in the media who will lie thru their teeth and to get people to talk to them, and then turn it into a very negative experience.

Oh okay, sorry got confused  I'm an old member & I remember the boards getting spammed (with porn) once then too. I can't remember my old username & dropped the email so I'm screwed. Trying to look through the old post to see if I can find myself  :girl_haha:

the board lost it's database a time or two, and all member info vanished... everyone had to re-join!

Yeah I noticed I didn't exist anymore lol. I can't even when the last time I was here, I just remember loving that I didn't have to lie (or hide) about my dbf....and a monkey icon with a typewriter (was it Mackey's?)

I would stay away from the media...my x does work for entertainment tonight and a lot of those guys do use gmail but anyone with a studio can proofs they are with a studio. He was only a sound engineer he wouldn't have been reaching out to you anyway. It is true a lot of freelance folks have gmail...and don't let a studio name fool you anyone can buy a URL. I'd stay away from the media they won't make you look good. I had an interesting life in my youth...I did a lot of shows. They exploit you. Don't help them with rateings to your families cost. It won't help you. The end.

waiting, in general you're right. there are some exceptions though. i've done a number of media interviews, for tv, newspaper, magazine, and radio. the ones that are usually done responsibly are the ones that are known news sources.

If I could chime in... as one of THOSE people (someone in the media), it is 110% smart to be suspicious of an email address that is not of a specific domain name (like [email protected]), BUT I have in the past used them myself for certain projects because they are free and easy to set up and keep the responses separate from other business a producer might get in an email.

That said, if the producer or casting director does not provide some suitable contact info or list the Production Company for whom they are working for, I would DEFINITELY be on guard! If you they are reluctant to say what the project is, it is likely they are trying to hide that they are from Springer or some other thing. If you can't Google the project or the poster is unwilling to provide info, I would be cautious of the opportunity.

Projects that seek to "expose" or "spin" a topic generally pander to the lowest common denominator, and create content that comes with a pre-packaged opinion that (and I'm sorry if this is harsh) their audiences are too stupid and lazy not to just take as fact.

That said, there ARE projects out there that are well intentioned and seek to share stories about folks in a margin of the population in an unbiased and "un-spun" light. As a casting guy, I find these forums (on any topic) are great for generating discussion and connecting with real people- I am always happy to explain the tone of my project and for the right people, this opportunity can be wildly useful for the community at large!

Just my two cents...

Yeah- especially if they aren't even willing to spend a few mins and tie their domain to gmail (google) business apps and change their email to (at no cost):

[email protected] from

[email protected]

really...
