hello all,

this is a wonderful site. im grateful to all who have contributed such informitive information. there's a lot of info regarding 1st cousins. however, i am involved with my 2nd cousin and have tried researching the risks of birth defects for 2nd cousins. i havent found much information. thus,  i'd like to know if there could be a future for us (having healthy children). of course, there are still the social obstacles ever present within our culture. thank you!

we have the information right here on our site. the short answer is, 2nd cousins share virtually the same amount of dna as two totally unrelated individuals, and your risks are no higher than any two unrelated individuals. for a more in depth answer about genetics, we have two pages of well researched info starting here: http://www.cousincouples.com/?page=overview
