What songs remind you of your relationship with your cousin?

Does anyone else really find your own meaning in the songs you listen to?

I'll start.

"Serial Killer" by Lana Del Rey.

"Red" by Taylor Swift

"Accidental Babies" by Damien Rice

If you know these songs, can you relate? If not, what songs do you relate to?

This one really done it for me.

Lyrics:

Just an ordinary day

Until you came around

I had my feet on the ground

So much for that.

Just an ordinary day

Until you came around

And now my life's upside down

Imagine that.

And its all because I heard you say

And it's all because I walked your way.

A lot of rock lyrics are purposely ambiguous so that you can paint your own picture. I think Jackson Browne's "Running on Empty" is the soundtrack of my life.

If any song describes my cousin and me,  it's Bonnie Rait's "Give them something to talk about." We would listen to that song and laugh like crazy.

Mine would be George Strait, I cross my heart.  I post it on my husbands face book wall all the time.

When You Say You Love Me- Josh Groban

It is not for good reasons.  The reason is because when I told my cousin that I loved her, it caused problems.

It's nice seeing other peoples thoughts on this and all the other songs out there that people associate with their cousin relationship.

Filp N Fill - True Love Never Dies Youtube link:

Yes, we were both rave junkies back in the day

Where ever we were in the club, once this song came on we'd look for each and dance together and sing out loud.

Just listening to it now again brings back so much fond memories.

Lyrics:

The moonlight shadows in the streetlights.

Only me and you.

A secret rendez-vouz after midnight.

They tried to keep us from each other.

They crucify the love, say we're not good enough, to be lovers.

I want to hold you in the morning (I wanna hold you).

I want to wake up by your side, give no reason to hide from the feeling (give me a feeling)

I want to tell the world about it.

Tell them all the truth, get up on the roof top and shout it...

Our love will last forever, true love

True love never dies!

We'll always be together.

True love.

Our love will last forever, true love

True love never dies!

We'll always be together.

True love.

(True Love Never Dies!!) (2x)

The moonlight shadows in the streetlights.

Only me and you.

A secret rendez-vouz after midnight.

They tried to keep us from each other.

They crucify the love, say we're not good enough, to be lovers.

Our love will last forever, true love

True love never dies!

We'll always be together.

True love.

Our love will last forever, true love

True love never dies!

We'll always be together.

True love.

Our love will last forever, true love

True love never dies!

We'll always be together.

True love.

Steely Dan "Cousin Dupree."

Imagine that?

LOL, i went out and bought that CD the day i first heard of the song... that was years ago now. but it was kinda ironic because steely dan had ALWAYS reminded me of mark, even 2 decades before we got together.

but "our song" is actually by kenny wayne sheppard. "i found love".

One of the times I saw my cousin (I was staying at his place while visiting England, where most of my extended family still lives), he played this song for me. Muse had only just started getting on the radar, and he had seen them in concert a little while before, so it's entirely likely that he just liked the song and thought I might enjoy it also, but part of me can't help but think (hope?) there was a bit of a message in there as well. At any rate, it's certainly something which seems to "fit", even though enough water has passed under that particular bridge that nothing will ever come of it at this point.

(by the way...I really kind of dislike this video. For best results, listen with your eyes closed, preferably after a glass or two of wine)

"Show Me Your Soul" Red Hot Chili Peppers

This song explains everything I felt shortly before I felll in love with her.

Here's the lyrics.

In a world that can be so insane

I don't think it's very strange

For me to be in love with you

I wanna know more than your brain

Into my life you were injected

Not something that I expected

Now I smile from your affection

We have made a soul connection

Just for whom does your bell toll

Don't be cold show me your soul

[Chorus:]

Sentimental Gentlemen are not afraid to show you when

I am you, you're my best friend

Show me your soul

In a world that can be so insane

I don't think it's very strange

For me to be in love with you

I wanna know more than your brain

Yes, I find you so appealing

When you show me how you're feeling

You, my friend, should not be kneeling

Open up and start revealing

Trust in me my heart is sole

I need to see, show me your soul

[Chorus]

In a world that can be so insane

I don't think it's very strange

For me to be in love with you

I wanna know more than your brain

Don't expect too much from me

Perfection is no test for me

Because the best I'll ever be

Is just like you: A human being

You won't offend, I need to know

Please, my friend, show me your soul

The song that reminds me of my cousin when we were young is, "Pour Some Sugar On Me," by Def Leppard. He recently reminded me of the time when I was a teenager I took him for a ride in my car and we were listening to that song. It was also applicable when we were together the other month.

A song that reminds me of him after he left, but before he cut communication with me, "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues," by Sir Elton John.

"I Want Crazy", by Hunter Hayes

"I wanna be scared, don't wanna know why,

wanna feel good, don't have to be right.

The world makes all kinds of rules for love,

I say you gotta let it do what it does!"

My cousin and I aren't actually together right now so the song "Lips of an Angel"by Hinder is a song I completely relate to. Some day when we are together I imagine it will be like "All or Nothing" by Theory of a Deadman because it will be us against the world...

Try to keep positive. I used-to think it would be "us against the world" as well, but my mother was extremely supportive from the moment I told her, because nothing can damage how much she loves me. "I'm just happy you found someone that makes you so happy!". On the other side of the family, even though I haven't told my step mother yet, I can tell from talks we've had that she is the same way and will be  be "in my corner" when telling the half that I actually expect resistance from.

Thank you. While us being together right now is not an option I hope that some day it may be. And if the chance comes I'll take it and won't let anyone's opinions bother me. Some of our family already suspects things and criticize us already so I have an idea of who stands where. I'm glad to hear you're family is supportive, that's great :)

Lots!

Taylor Swift, "Untouchable". "Untouchable like a distant diamond sky, Mmmm

I'm reaching out and I just can't tell you why

I'm caught up in you, I'm caught up in you

Untouchable, burning brighter than the sun

And when you're close I feel like coming undone"

Serena Ryder, "Weak In the Knees" (see my signature) "Would you mind if I walked over and I kissed your face

In front of all of your friends?

Would you mind if I got drunk and said

I wanna take you home to bed

Oh, would you change your mind?"

Those are just a couple. There's more, will look them up.
